Receipt book kept on board of the U.S. Frigate Constitution, 1814, May 21 -- Oct. 18.

A ledger, kept by Lieutenant Willim H. Hunter, recording advances on bounty received by seamen recruited in in Boston in 1814. All records are signed by the recruits. The first series (ff. 1-18) covers the month from May 21 to June 22 and ends with a tally of "checks drawn." The second portion (ff. 19-34) reflects payments made from Aug. 25 to October 18.

34 leaves, 18 cm., stitched notebook; contemporary covers of marbled paper.

William M. Hunter, a United States Navy officer. Midshipman (1809), Lieutenant (1813, July 24), commander (Mar. 21, 1826), Captain (Feb. 9, 1837). He served with Charles Stewart (1778-1869), on the Constitution, during its cruise to the Windward Islands and later, in 1820-1824, in the Pacific Squadron. Hunter died on March 5, 1849.
